POSTNATAL COURSES FOR PARENTS

There are a wide range of antenatal preparation courses available but we feel that there is a gap in postnatal guidance for parents.   We can run courses/sessions for you or a group in the comfort of your home or at a local venue.  Prices for the courses drop per individual, the more attendees join up.  One off sessions on particular topics are also possible including: introducing solids/baby-led weaning.

Victoria will be offfering a free postnatal drop-in in Midhurst from the new year 2018.  This will take place every Thursday from 1.30-3pm.  Come and meet other local mums for a chat and some moral support.  Victoria will be on hand to answer any questions you have on: infant feeding, baby sleep, behaviour and development and caring for yourself.

Our courses are based on: evidence based research, our observations as postnatal doulas and what other parents have found useful.  Parents can find themselves feeling overwhelmed and confused by all the advice and information out there.  We hope to help you find a way through it all, so you can make the choices that are best for you.

Here are a few of the topics we will cover in our Postnatal Courses - but you can add to our list at any time!

Now you're a parent: parenting styles and what kind of parent do you want to be?

Feeding options – how do you want to feed your baby?

Why is my baby crying? Reading your baby’s cues

Calming and bonding with your baby – following your instincts

Getting your baby into a 'routine'

Sleeping - baby sleep rhythms, how to safely bed-share/co-sleep and information about SIDS, baby bed time routines, preparing your baby for good sleep habits and creating a good sleep environment, how parents can get enough sleep

Early baby development - how to support your baby's brain growth and watch for growth spurts

Dads and babies - the transition to fatherhood

£23 per mother per 2 hour session.  £30 for a couple per 2 hour session.  Minimum of 4 attendees.  Courses can have as

few or as many sessions as required (we suggest four to cover everything you might want to know!).

We can also run sessions on later babycare/parenting topics including:

Introducing solids inc baby-led

Returning to work, childcare options, how to get a work/life balance

Later baby development and sleep rhythms

Teething

Breastfeeding past 6 months

Managing baby and toddler behaviour

Gentle sleep ideas

Some recent testimonials about the course:

“ Understanding approaches to routines and hearing other people’s experiences was helpful.  The exercise on essential tasks versus non-essential ones was really useful.  Thank-you!”

“It was all useful.  The group discussion – feeling that other people are going through the same thing - was helpful.  It was good to learn to prioritise and assess my baby’s ‘pattern’.”
